Simple Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry with Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for sauce)
  • 4 cups cooked white rice, for serving

    In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Mix well and let marinate for at least 10 minutes while you prepare other ingredients.

    In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, 1/4 cup soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Set aside.

    Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.

    Add the broccoli florets to the same skillet. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and slightly tender-crisp. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and stir-fry for another minute until fragrant.

    Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Give the prepared sauce a quick whisk and pour it over the beef and broccoli. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Serve immediately over hot cooked white rice.
