Sautéed Tuna and Mushroom Pasta with Robust Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • •200g pasta
  • •1 can tuna in oil, drained
  • •150g mushrooms, sliced
  • •1 large tomato, diced
  • •200ml pasta sauce
  • •2 tablespoons olive oil
  • •1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • •Salt to taste
  • •Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente, typically 8-10 minutes. Drain well and set aside.

  2. 2

While the pasta cooks, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the drained tuna and sauté for 2-3 minutes, gently breaking it apart, until lightly seared and warmed through. Remove tuna from the skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and tender. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

  4. 4

Add the diced tomato to the skillet with the mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes begin to soften and release their juices.

  5. 5

Pour in the pasta sauce and add the dried basil. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, and let it cook for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

  6. 6

Return the seared tuna to the skillet with the sauce and mushrooms. Stir gently to combine and heat through for about 1-2 minutes.

  7. 7

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing everything together until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

  8. 8

Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper as needed. Serve immediately, ensuring each plate gets a good portion of the flavorful sauce, tuna, and mushrooms.
